15-5PH UNS S15500 XM-12 Age-Hardening Stainless Steel Bars and Plates
Derived from 17-4PH, this martensitic precipitation-hardening stainless steel features reduced copper and chromium content with marginally higher nickel composition. It delivers remarkable transverse toughness and good malleability, offering corrosion resistance comparable to 17-4PH, while its marine atmospheric stress corrosion resistance reaches peak performance under H900 aging or tempering above 523°C. Its mechanical strength can be precisely adjusted through customized aging heat treatment, making it well-suited for dynamic load-bearing components used in aerospace and marine engineering. The material carries higher raw alloy costs and requires rigorous, standardized welding procedures during fabrication.
Applications of 15-5PH
This high-strength corrosion-resistant alloy meets strict industrial standards for aerospace, petrochemical, medical, heavy machinery and power generation applications.
- Aerospace: It is used to manufacture aircraft components, missile components, engine parts and so on, which requires a service environment with high strength, high toughness and good corrosion resistance.
- Petrochemical field: It is used to manufacture chemical equipment, valves and pumps, which can withstand corrosive media and high-pressure environment.
- Medical device field: Because of its good biocompatibility and corrosion resistance, it can be used to manufacture medical devices and implants.
- Mechanical manufacturing field: It is used to manufacture high-strength mechanical parts, such as gears, shafts and fasteners, etc.

Process Properties
The hot working temperature range is 1000~1205℃,and the appropriate hot working temperature is 1175~1205℃.This kind of steel does not contain ferrite and can be forged by upsetting and flattening, and should be quickly cooled to below 30℃after forging.
Relationship Between Stress Corrosion and Yield Strength in Saturated H2S
When the stress is 345MPa, different tempering and aging technologies are used to obtain different yield strengths; the number in parentheses represents austenite content, and the number on the side of the numerical point represents tempering and aging temperature (℉).
