UNS S45000 Age-Hardening Stainless Steel Bars and Plates
Martensitic precipitation-hardening stainless steel boasts excellent strength, corrosion resistance, and good machinability. Its high strength is achieved through age-hardening heat treatment. It exhibits superior weldability compared to conventional martensitic stainless steels; however, it comes at a higher cost, has limited toughness in cryogenic environments, and shows a pronounced tendency toward work hardening.
Applications of UNS S45000
This material is widely used in aerospace (aircraft structural components, engine parts), marine engineering (ship propeller shafts, seawater pump valves), energy (turbine blades, nuclear power fasteners), and defense industries (armored components, missile parts). It is particularly well-suited for critical components that demand high strength, moderate corrosion resistance, and complex forming capabilities.
