17-4PH UNS S17400 AISI 630 Age-Hardening Stainless Steel Bars and Plates
This low-carbon martensitic precipitation-hardening stainless steel gains adjustable strength via martensite transition & copper precipitation during heat treatment. High chromium & copper deliver solid corrosion resistance, high-temperature stability and superior corrosion fatigue performance. It supports SMAW/laser welding with simple post-weld heat recovery, features wide hot-working range and great forgeability, yet deep cold forming is not recommended for complex parts. Optimal anti-corrosion performance is achieved under H1150 aging, with its corrosion fatigue strength 30% higher than standard 12%Cr martensitic stainless steel.
Applications of 17-4PH
17-4 PH stainless steel combines high strength, corrosion resistance and precipitation hardening property, widely applied in aerospace, petrochemical, medical, marine and precision machinery components.
- Aerospace: It can be used to manufacture aircraft engine components, aircraft rudder surfaces, aircraft chassis and other high-strength components, as well as structural components such as helicopter decks.
- Petrochemical field: It is used to manufacture corrosion-resistant components such as pipes, valves and pumps, which can withstand the corrosion of petroleum and chemical media, and have sufficient strength to cope with harsh working conditions such as high pressure and high temperature.
- Mechanical manufacturing field: It is suitable for manufacturing all kinds of shafts, gears, bolts and other mechanical components, such as pump shafts and oil circuit components, etc.
- Food processing field: Good corrosion resistance makes it suitable for the manufacturing of food processing equipment such as food machinery components and food storage containers, which satisfies the hygiene standards of food industry.
- Medical device field: It can be used to manufacture all kinds of medical devices and equipment, such as surgical instruments and implants, etc.
- Nuclear industry field: It can be used to manufacture nuclear waste bins and other equipment related to nuclear industry.
- Marine engineering field: It is applicable to structural components and equipment in marine environment, such as offshore platform components and manufacturing of ships, etc.

Process Properties
Hot working: The temperature range is 1000~1170℃. For parts with large sectional dimensions (≥75mm) or complex shape, they should be returned to the furnace promptly after hot working and reheated to the original hot working temperature and then slowly cooled.
Heat treatment:Aging treatment is allowed after the Condition A(martensite)is obtained after solution treatment, and the method of over-aging treatment followed by repeated solution treatment and then heat treatment can also be adopted after solution treatment.
