UNS S46500 Age-Hardening Stainless Steel Bars and Plates
This is a high-strength martensitic precipitation-hardening stainless steel with excellent resistance to stress corrosion. After age hardening, it boasts ultra-high strength exceeding 1650 MPa and corrosion resistance comparable to that of 17-4PH steel; however, its raw material costs are high, cold working requires strict control of deformation, and heat treatment uniformity for thick-section parts is extremely demanding.
Applications of UNS S46500
In the aerospace field, it can be used for critical load-bearing components of landing gear and helicopter rotor shafts. In the defense industry, it is applied to missile casings and armored vehicle connectors. In the marine equipment sector, it is used for high-strength fasteners in submarines, structures of deep-sea submersibles, and high-performance racing car transmission components. Moreover, it is suitable for extreme operating conditions where titanium alloys can be replaced to achieve weight reduction and cost savings.
