SKD11 Cr12MoV Cold-work Tool Steel Bars and Plates
This is a high-carbon, high-chromium cold-work die steel belonging to the martensitic class. It exhibits excellent hardenability, allowing large-section dies to be uniformly hardened. It also boasts ultra-high hardness and wear resistance, with minimal dimensional changes during quenching. Compared to Cr12 steel, it features a more uniform carbide distribution and higher toughness.
Applications of SKD11
This grade delivers exceptional wear resistance and compressive strength, with stable dimensional accuracy under heavy loads. It is mainly applied to cold forming tooling, covering precision blanking dies and cold extrusion dies for electronic components, bearing races and fasteners.
- Cold working die: It is widely used for manufacturing all kinds of cold working dies such as cold punching dies, cold heading dies and cold extrusion dies. Among these dies, the high hardness, high strength and good wear resistance of Cr12MoV steel can ensure the service life and machining accuracy of these dies.
- Measuring and cutting tool: It can be used to manufacture all kinds of measuring and cutting tools, such as calipers, micrometers and cutting tools, etc. Its high hardness and good wear resistance can ensure the measurement accuracy and cutting performance of measuring and cutting tools.
- Wear-resistant parts: Because of its excellent wear resistance, it can also be used to manufacture all kinds of wear-resistant parts, such as guide pillars, guide sleeves and sliding blocks, etc. These parts need to withstand friction and wear during operation, and Cr12MoV steel can meet their usage requirements.

Process Properties
It has good hot forging performance, and can improve the internal structure of steels and enhance its mechanical properties by forging process. The forging temperature range is generally 1050-1100℃.
It has good machinability, and can be used to manufacture various shapes of parts by machining. However, because of its high hardness, hard alloy cutting tools are required for cutting operations.
