UNS S11100 Age-Hardening Stainless Steel Bars and Plates
High-carbon martensitic stainless steel, an improved version of 440A stainless steel, can achieve an ultra-high hardness of HRC 56-58 through quenching and tempering treatments. At the same time, it retains better corrosion resistance than conventional tool steels and exhibits superior rust-prevention capabilities compared to traditional tool steels. However, it has lower toughness (impact energy around 10 J), poorer weldability, and its high chromium carbide content may lead to uneven corrosion resistance.
Applications of UNS S11100
This material is primarily used in precision tools (high-end surgical blades, carving tools), industrial wear-resistant components (bearing balls, valve sealing rings), and specialized molds (optical lens pressing dies)—all fields with stringent requirements for hardness and wear resistance. It is particularly well-suited for precision mechanical parts that also need to offer rust-prevention capabilities.
